AT Still University transformed my mother

Health & Medical

When her husband passed away a few years ago, my Mother decided she was going to get out of the house and do something new and different with her life. After a bit of research and chatting with some friends she began to seriously consider enrolling at AT Still.

Most of her work was able to be completed online which allowed her to learn without having to fight traffic to get to the campus classrooms. She appreciated this a lot since the last job she had performed included driving all around town during peak drive times.

The more she learned about the health providing industry, the more she leaned towards a career in management and administration. She decided that she would work on an advanced degree at AT Still University and was soon able to complete requirements for a masters degree in health administration.

Now that she has an amazing job, is out of the house for the first time in years, she is happy. And not just that happy that people tell you when you ask them. The actual, real, true to the bone type of happiness that can only be described by having to be there to believe it.

Traditional university vs. online education

Health & Medical

A traditional university these days, in order to be more marketable need to have an online component I believe.  Business or health colleges need to have online business management courses, or health management university online classes.  Offering a variety of different courses and the certificates to go with them from an accredited university offers a lot of individuals the ability to further their education.  An online health doctorate program from an online medical school was once seen as something that was not available and so a whole market of people was missed out in the field.  These were people who wanted to further their education with additional schooling, but did not have the opportunity to see it through.

Along came the internet and a few years after that online distance programs started.  This opened up such a huge population that could go after the additional education that they were seeking.  It took awhile, but online education also was getting more respected as the years have gone by, especially with the advances in the online education forum.  People can sometimes get even more out of the online classes than a traditional classroom setting.  Online is an ideal way to get or further your education.

Tips for Effective Reading

Health & Medical

The benefits of reading are endless. You can learn new words, discover new cultures, broaden your horizons, and become a better writer. Of course, you can only receive these benefits if you actually remember what you read.

Here are some reading tips to make you a more effective reader.

 1. Take Notes- Whether you’re reading for psychology degree school or just for fun, taking notes is a great way to make information stick. It’s effective because it stimulates multiple sentences. You aren’t just seeing the words with your eyes; you’re writing them with your hands. To further enhance the experience, read your notes out loud.

2. Don’t Read when You’re Tired- One of the biggest mistakes we make is to read right before bed. I know back when I was getting my educational leadership degree, I was guilty of this. You need to be fully awake and focused when you read. That’s the only way you’ll remember what you read.

3. Talk about Your Reading- Think about it. Back in high school, you used to always discuss what you read in class. Same thing in college. Discussing the material you read doesn’t just reinforce it in your mind; it also helps you explore the topic on a deeper level.
